Johan Chasseur - Keyboards

Johan started playing piano at age 7, and a few years later took up French horn and joined a Wind Orchestra.

In his teens, both instruments were abandoned in favor of synthesizers, and he joined his first band at age 17. Following that he joined the band ”Rio" who released a first single in 1983.

In 1984 he joined the band Motherlode where he played till 1985 when he left to form ”Tales" together with Jorgen Lundstedt and Mandy Jensen (R.I.P).

In 1986 he returned to Motherlode who the same year released the album The Sanctuary and toured in Europe with English band ”Magnum”.

During 1989-1990 he toured with Norwegian band "Stage Dolls" in Europe and USA, supporting bands like Blue Murder, Warrant, Dirty Looks, Fish (ex Marillion), Mike Monroe (ex Hanoi Rocks).

In 1991-94 he played in the band Lifeline (EP 1993). Then followed an intermission from music with a return on the Stoneface album Bad Luck World 2020.

After the passing of guitar player Tom Nilsson in April 2020, Stoneface dissolved and Johan went on to reform Tales with original bass player Jorgen Lundstedt and Stephen Carlson.

Main influences: Deep Purple, UK, Saga, Manfred Mann, Boston, Journey, Yes, Asia, Alan Parson,Sparks, Roxy Music, 10CC, XTC, Nik Kershaw just to name a few.

Jorgen Lundstedt - Bass

Jorgen2_edited.jpg

Jorgen started playing guitar at age 10 and came in contact with bass thru older friends one year later. It didn’t get serious though, until age 13 when he got his own bass. He is mostly self taught, but also got tutoring from an older friend who was a skilled bass player.

In high school he joined up with some really talented music scholars who made a great impression on him. In late 1984 he met Mandy Jensen who also brought with him drummer Jonas Palmquist to start a band.

They struggled to complete the band for a while, and when Johan Chasseur came along dragging his trusty old Hammond with him, Tales was founded. A very ambitious year of composing and recording followed and the belief in the band was strong.

However, in 1986 Johan left Tales to return to Motherlode, who were soon to begin a tour with English band Magnum. And soon after Jorgen got an offer from the band Just for Fun, who had been signed and had more leverage.

That’s also where Jorgen met Stephen Carlson and quickly realised Stephen’s great talent. Unfortunately Stephen left Just for fun in 1987 and they lost contact for many years.

Between then and now Jorgen has played in a number of show bands, tribute bands and cover bands (he frequently plays in the coverband Jackie’s Stoned). Apart from that he has also been a session musician behind a wide array of established artists for the last 20 years.

Having reconnected with both Stephen and Johan 5 years ago it now feels incredibly inspiring to make music together under the Tales name again. And in some way it also reconnects with the original guitar player and singer Mandy Jensen R.I.P.

Some of Jorgen's influences:

John Wetton, Terry Bozzio, Eddie Jobson (UK), Geddy Lee (Rush), Tony Levin, Peter Gabriel, Mike Porcaro, Jeff Porcaro (Toto), Kansas, The Tubes, Journey,Genesis, Queen, Sparks, Sweet, Grand Funk, King Krimson. And the list goes on...

Stephen Carlson - Guitars

Stephen_edited_edited_edited.jpg

Stephen started playing the trumpet at age 6. Four years later, at age 10 he took up guitar and also joined his first band.

At thirteen he was able to receive free tutoring at school from teacher Bela Swardmark who really got Stephen hooked on guitar.

Thru the early years Stephen played in several bands including the ambitious band "Just for fun", a great experience and good teaching ground, where he also met bass player Jorgen Lundstedt the first time.

Stephen, Jorgen and Johan also collaborated on a Cancer Aid project in the eighties.

In 1990 Stephen moved to Norway where he since then has been a frequently hired session musician (even on Rap albums in the nineties!) as well as participated in various projects.

He is a steady guitar player with Peter Carlsohn’s ”The Rise”, Brotthogg, Mr Hansen Band and Gil Edwards and also collaborates with Christian Liljegren (Narnia's lead singer) on their project Melodic Passion.

When Tales was reformed Stephen was happy to join. The coming progressive streak in Tales' songwriting will be just in line with what he is happy to explore.

Some of Stephen’s main influences are Rainbow, Deep Purple, Queen, MSG, Steve Vai, Roine Stolt and Neal Morse.
